IntroductionBad Poker PlayersTwo Kinds of Players: The first type of player plays like what they have seen on television. They play in a low-imit game, they think they can win in this game by bluffing and raising - they play like maniacs. This type of player is easy to spot. The second type is the meeker type. These people are weaker - they are passive players, and they hardly fold or raise. Both the passive players and the maniac players have some characteristics in common. Both do not know how to play the game correctly. These players are profitable for skilled players. The skilled player can make money for their opponent's mistakes. Strategy for bad opponents: At the end of every game the good player takes advantage of the new and clueless bad players. A "bad beat" still could occur, though, no matter how skilled you are. When the veteran player is seated with many new players, gets an excellent hand and bets big, and one of the newbies gets a better hand, this is called a "bad beat". The veteran could get very frustrated angry. For his many years of experience and skills, he still can lose to a newbie. Don't educate the bad players: More often than not, bad players are losers. As the skilled and experienced player, you do not want to share with them the education of the game, but you also do not want to shoo them away from the table, because they're money in your pocket. Available is a wealth of books and other information/software that a player who wants to learn the game can use to get educated properly. If the new player wants to be educated by his experience on the table while playing, you can make him "pay" for the education that you will be teaching him, by taking his money. Unsolicited "free advice" that you can give to the new player can be someday useful and they might use that against you in a future game. Adjust your playing strategy If you are playing in a game with many new players you have to adjust your strategy. If the table is filled with aggressive players you have to tighten up, if you are seated with passive players you have to stay with more hands. Don't play too slow or too fast. Your approach should be straight forward. As much as possible, do not bluff. Adjust your strategy with new players, with different kinds of playing habits. |
